HERMES Dashboard — Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 July 2026

The HERMES Dashboard ("HERMES", "the app", "we") is a non-commercial research tool that visualizes network-anomaly detections computed over publicly available M-Lab measurement data in Google BigQuery. By accessing or using HERMES you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What HERMES provides

HERMES is provided for research, educational, and operational-insight purposes only. It presents visualizations and lets signed-in users run read-only BigQuery queries against public M-Lab datasets. It is not a commercial product and carries no service-level or availability guarantee.

Signing in and running queries

  • Optional features require signing in with your Google account so that queries run as you against the shared M-Lab BigQuery project. Those queries are billed to, and constrained by, your own M-Lab quota — not ours.
  • Your ability to query the data depends entirely on your existing M-Lab group membership. HERMES does not grant, expand, or store any additional data-access rights, and cannot access any Google data beyond running these BigQuery queries.
  • Data access and use is also governed by our Privacy Policy, Google's Terms of Service, and M-Lab's own Acceptable Use Policy.

Acceptable use

You agree to use HERMES lawfully and not to:

  • attempt to disrupt, overload, or circumvent the app's rate limits or query cost controls, or otherwise abuse the service;
  • use the app to access data you are not authorized to access;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app, its servers, or related systems;
  • use the app in any way that violates applicable law or the terms of Google or M-Lab.

Research data

Detections and visualizations shown in HERMES are the output of ongoing research and may be incomplete, approximate, or subject to revision. They are provided for informational purposes and should not be relied upon as authoritative without independent verification.

No warranty

HERMES is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that results will be accurate or complete.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HERMES and its maintainers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or any loss of data, quota, or opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of the app.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
